“The Girl On The Train”

Based on the play by Jean-Marie Besset of the same name.

Young Jeanne forms a relationship with Franck, an aspirant professional wrestler. The first part of The Girl On The Train focuses on the love affair between the two, as at the same time Jeanne applies for a secretarial job in Samuel Bleistien’s law firm, a former admirer of her mother Louise, and a well-known activist in the Paris’s Jewish community. Their lives are interrupted when Jeanne claims she had been a target of a brutal anti-Semetic attack by six young men on a Paris suburban train. The incident leaves her traumatized and behaving in an unusual way. The second part of the film focuses on Samuel Bleistien’s inner world and relationship with his son and daughter-in-law. As Jeanne’s story fails to add up, and she is exposed as a liar, the character’s personal dramas entwine with the political background. The drama creates a subsequent media sensation and grows into France’s biggest news story of the day, focusing on the revival f French anti-Semitism.
