Jeff Bridges Has A “Crazy Heart” In New Music Drama
“Crazy Heart”
Jeff Bridges is Bad Blake, a country music singer\songwriter who was once very successful but had lost his fame to the bottle of booze. At 57, after far too many broken marriages he earns his living from small gigs in small southern bars. He leads a lonely life from his car moving from one cheap motel to another, therefore without a real home or anyone to care or love him. Bad has no real reason for changing his way of life until he meets Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal) a young journalist who manages to find the real heart inside of Bad’s weary body. Jean is divorced and her 4 year old son buddy grows fond and attached to Bad, and so does she. Bad finds the two as a reason for waking up in the morning and for doing something with his life. Part of getting his life back on track is to replenish his professional cooperation with Tommy Sweet, a past protégé of his which became a popular country music star, as he starts playing as his opening act. Things seem to be going well, until Bad loses Buddy in the mall for he is busy getting drink, a reason good enough for Jean for leaving him. Determined to prove to her he seriously wants to stop drinking he starts attending AA meetings and furthermore, he writes a new song and lets Tommy play it at one of the concerts, receiving a warm and fond reaction from the audience. This becomes a routine while Bad is given royalties for the song. Too little too late, he meets Jean outside one of the concerts but she is already engaged to someone else. The story ends with the two as friends and as Jean interviews Bad as the only person who ever really looked in to him.
