Gates Likely to Stay On at Defense

By  |

This had been the rumor for awhile. Now, it’s apparently close to being official. Robert Gates will stay on as Defense Secretary in Barack Obama’s administration. Reports are Gates will stay for at least a year.

Well, Obama promised to have some Republicans in his administration. This certainly counts. And it’s a good move because it ensures Obama will have the advice of someone intimate with our nation’s two current wars and it keeps in place a man who’s proven to be a pragmatic and successful leader of the Defense Department.

I’m sure others will disagree, but I like this choice.

I still find it odd that people get upset over some of Obama’s choices, he’s not an idealogue, he’s a pragmatist, he seems to fit the mold of greats like FDR and Lincoln who were more concerned about making sure things got done. Its something we need in this period of domestic and international chaos

People are upset because it is not about getting things done for them–it is about obtaining and keeping power or about affiliation’s with a group based on ideology.

I love the smell of Centrism in the air.

He may alienate the left but he is please a lot of fiscal conservative Democrats. And as long that he’s doing that he will pull a lot of moderate Republicans on his side that will help him in the long run.
