Coffee Review: BuyWell’s Guatemala Fuego
I have a little ritual on Sundays: brew a pot of coffee, turn on the tube and watch the the talking head shows. So when the folks over at BuyWell (their ad is in the middle column) contacted me and said they wanted to send me some organically grown coffee to try, I jumped at the chance.
The first thing I notice when making any coffee is what it smells like when I grind it, and the Fuego definitely lives up to brownie batter part of the description. Fantastic aroma. However, once brewed, I find that many coffees don’t really retain the same smell, but this kept it and filled the house. Definitely a bonus.
Truth be told, I’m not usually a fan of medium roasts, but this one is more on the darker side, although it sort of sneaks up on you. If you drink coffee you’ll know what I’m talking about here. Especially if you like french roasts, espresso or sumatran varieties. Those kind of jump up and down on your palette (which I like) but the Fuego treads lightly. And to that point, the finish is pretty amazing and I’m getting a lot of chocolate in there. I actually sliced up a banana and that combo was a big winner.
Long story short, this is a 9 out of 10 for me. I’ll definitely buy it when I run out…which should be very soon.
