Mariners Top Prospect Michael Pineda Set to Make Triple-A Debut with Tacoma Wednesday
There’s not much to be excited about for Mariners fans these days. Despite boasting one of the top pitching staffs in the American League and a recent four game winning streak, Seattle still finds itself in last place in the American League West Division, 14 games behind division leading Texas. To top it all off, star pitcher Cliff Lee—just acquired this past off-season—might as well have his bags packed, because he is likely to be traded within the next six weeks.
Mariners fans will have a chance to get a glimpse of a bright future Wednesday, however, when top pitching prospect Michael Pineda makes his Triple-A debut for the Rainiers in Tacoma. Pineda, a big, hard throwing right hander was called up from Double-A West Tennessee earlier this week after going 8-1 with a 2.22 ERA in 13 starts, striking out 78 and walking 17 in 77 innings. The 21 year-old out of the Dominican Republic has been lauded for his exceptional control and could potentially see the big league roster as early as this season.
