John Sekula

A founding member of Mushroomhead and the band’s former guitarist John E. Sekula — known better to fans as JJ Righteous — has died. He was 41. It is not clear what caused his death.

According to Blabbermouth, Sekula died on October 28, and played guitar on the ‘Head’s first three albums — 1995’s Mushroomhead, 1996’s Superbuick and 1999’s M3. Sekula was also a member of State of Conviction, a band fronted by former Mushroomhead vocalist Jason Popson.

A statement from Sekula’s family reads, “To everyone who loved John or has had the opportunity of letting him touch your life. We just ask you to leave comments and prayers for us. We’re having a difficult time dealing with this due to our overwhelming love. This is hard; we miss him.” Our thoughts are with you.

Besides music, John was passionate about painting, and actually plied a living working on custom homes over the years. A visitation is being held on November 3 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Busch Funeral Home in Parma, Ohio. A memorial service will follow from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
