Chad On Film: “A ‘Biutiful’ Film From Iñárritu”
If you have not already seen one of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s films (“Amores Perros,” “21 Grams,” “Babel”), you may need to prepare yourself for the emotional bullet that his films shoot you in the face with.
Seriously, every movie that I have seen directed by Iñárritu has left me with a bad taste in my mouth and a rain cloud hovering over my head. I believe this is a good thing because a film should make the audience feel something. That is exactly what he has done with previous films, and with his latest film “Biutiful.”
Javier Bardem (“No Country For Old Men”) stars as a father of three trying to make ends meet for his family in Spain. There are supernatural elements in this movie that Alejandro González Iñárritu has not used before. Let’s just say that Javier Bardem’s character, Uxbal, has a “Sixth Sense.”
Also, Alejandro’s films usually follow multiple stories of different people throughout his films, but he seems to stick mostly with Uxbal’s story for “Biutiful.” This movie has an amazing cast all around, but be sure to pay attention to Maricel Alvarez (Uxbal’s drug addict wife) and also Uxbal’s children.
After looking up Biutiful on IMDB, I noticed that a lot of the actors are unknown and this, I hope, will put them all on the map. There are subtle details hidden through the whole movie, so pay attention when reading the subtitles. Unless, of course, you can speak Spanish, then you are golden. I highly recommend this movie for fans of Alejandro González Iñárritu and his other work. It is without a doubt, a biutiful film.
