Simon Says No To Play Santo’s Party House
Simon Says No!, a Norwegian shogaze act, will be playing Santo’s Party House, on Tuesday, March 15th. Â Shoegaze, a style of music known for it’s fuzzy guitars, ethereal sound, and drowned out vocals, was first made popular by bands like My Bloody Valentine, Chapterhouse, and Slowdive. Sounds of shoegaze can be heard in the ’90’s alt. rock music like Smashing Pumpkins, or in later era 00’s band, M83.
Whatever era of shoegaze you are familiar with, Simon Says No! promises to give you a taste of the something old and something new. While the band’s sound borrows from the original British scene, the band’s stadium rock tendencies has prompted American audiences to call the band’s style of music “Foo-Gaze”.
If you have the ability to enjoy this crisp pre-spring March evening, and can make it to Santo’s, brace yourself for some LOUD music. While shoegaze generally gets lumped in with the softer side of the music bin, that is only a myth. Thousands of concert goers of years past can attest to the fact that My Bloody Valentine shows have been some of the loudest shows they have ever attended. Â Even louder than Maiden! Â Once you give Simon Says No!’s latest album a spin, prepare yourself to lower the volume ahead of time. Out of the dark beginning of silence comes a crushing wave of sound that would rival any viking black metal outfit.
Simon Say’s No! will be opening for headlining act Future Islands, and will have the band Bloodgroup opening the set. The  Santo’s Party House 18+ show, starts at 7:30 P.M., and is $10 to enter. The two floor venue straddles Tribeca and Chinatown in Manhattan, and is easily accessible by the 4,6, J, Q and Z lines.
