Record Store Day Returns for 2011
Anymore, a music-loving soul might need a good reason to spend an afternoon at a record shop, getting lost in the piles and getting that delightful grime on one’s hands from shuffling racks of CDs. Record Store Day celebrates not only the thrill of the hunt, and supports the hard-working local record shops; it is increasingly a day to do major spending. Artists around the world are prepping releases for April 16, to be found exclusively at your favorite haunt (but not online). Here’s a sample of artists releasing this Saturday:
Jimmy Eat World
Death Cab for Cutie
Akon and Family
Someone Still Loves You, Boris Yeltzen
The White Stripes
Jenny and Johnny
My Chemical Romance
*These last three are exclusives, reissues, alternate versions, never released songs and remixes from some of our favorite departed artists. Crazy, huh?
Be sure to check your local record stores for even more releases and some smaller run, uber-exclusive releases. It will also pay to get there early, as bands are playing at various stores and you’ll want your chance to see who shows up. You can also find the full list of Record Store Day releases, event details, and more info on releases from major labels, on our dedicated Record Store Day page.
