Obama’s 60 Minutes Interview

By  |

I hadn’t gotten around to watching this until just now. Maybe you’re in the same boat, so I’m sharing the whole thing. 30 minutes worth. Some nice before bed content.

And by the way, the idea that the conservative blogosphere is floating that Obama didn’t want the Seals to take the shot is decimated in this video. He was involved in a very substantial manner and that’s all there is to it.

nice interview, thanks a lot for sharing!

His nickname “No Drama Obama” comes to mind. Impressive, decisive.

  • Tully

Heh. What he “wanted” to do is between him and God. We only know what he DID do. Approved the mission. Not a lot of choice for him there IMHO, but damned if I’ll run him down for doing the correct thing. Such criticism is truly Catch-22; critics trying to leave him no available action/option that they would NOT paint as somehow reprehensible.

His subsequent use of the issue in political posturing is fair game, but the fact is he gave the orders, they were carried out, and that was the correct thing for the President to do.

“Before bed content”? Cures insomnia, anyway.

Obama’s not the only one to posture politically

From what I have seen, Obama’s posturing has been relatively humble while trying to beef up his credentials. Not an easy line to walk.

Are there even any credible sources of such criticism, with, you know, evidence? If not, I see no reason to even mention it.

  • Tully

“Credible,” of course is so often defined not at all by rationally meaningful evidence but by one’s political worldview, so I would say YMMV. :-)

As with any President, there will always be those for whom the current OOO (Oval Office Occupant) can do no right. Ever. No way no how. The only evidence they need to support their views is what their Rice Krispies Fellow True Believers tell them.

On Bin Laden, it’s not really all that hard a post-event line to walk if you get it. Obama is smart enough to know that there was really no need to to do any chest-thumping.

What matters is the deed done. And that’s resounded across the globe. All the rest is just chitter chatter ’bout schmacka-schmacka-schmacka!”

Name that tune, by the way.

Anyone that’s ever managed anything should know that the attention paid by and decisiveness of the decision-maker has everything to do with the outcome. As Obama points out, anything could have happened, but he placed the appropriate amount of attention on this from the beginning, ordered an action plan to be developed, and made the call to go forward, which resulted in a good outcome He deserves every bit of credit, along with the nearly super human Navy Seals and Intellengence agencies that carried it out. So impressive. To me, Obama seems to have donned a more fully presidential mantle now. It will be hard for anyone to continue to try to deny him that.

    Shattered. RS. Too easy.

Obama once again shows presidential class and decisive leadership in how he deals with the Bin Laden event. What a difference to the dwarf candidates on the Republican side, who can only criticize real leadership.
