Corey Taylor Is Actually One Of My New Favorite People
I mean, in interviews — and I’m counting ones that I did with the man — he always seemed like such a cocky asshole. But unmasked, on the road, Taylor is proving himself to be a rather cool motherfucker.
I don’t know if you’d call this spoken word of stand-up, but Taylor has been touring the country, playing acoustic sets for people and just riffing with the crowd, talking smack. I don’t know what it is about honesty that makes someone so endearing to me, but that’s just the way it is. And Corey’s been talking smack on the road: He recently slammed Rick Rubin for being a lazy bastard, and now, he’s set his sights on Scott Weiland.
At the end of this post, watch fan-shot footage of Corey telling it how it is, and man — is he a funny dude? I have such a newfound respect for Corey…a newfound love. That doesn’t mean I’ve changed my opinion on Stone Sour or Slipknot; those bands are worse than being trapped in a room clouded by the fog of dog farts.
Fast forward the video to about the seven minute and 50 second mark for the good stuff, which goes something like this.
“Do you know that Scott Weiland has a Christmas album now?,” says Corey. “Oh, it’s bad. It’s bad. Let me fucking explain to you how bad it is. There is a video online of him singing, and he’s very serious. ‘Cause Christmas is serious. His hair is all slicked back and he’s in his shitty tuxedo. He goes [imitates Weiland’s singing]. So I’m watching this — painfully watching this, because hey, know your enemy — and I’m just like, ‘Why?’ It’s not that he’s a bad singer, ’cause he’s not. I love STP, I love some of the shit that he did with Velvet Revolver. It’s not that he’s a bad fucking singer. He’s a lazy piece of shit, is what he is at this point.”
