VIDEO: Bill Clinton’s 2012 Democratic Convention Speech & Fact Checking His Claims
Pretty damn spot on. He went through all of the Republicans claims point by point and seemed to lay waste to their arguments. The “We believe that “we’re all in this together” is a far better philosophy than “you’re on your own.” line was pretty spot on.
But before I get ahead of myself…the speech…
So how did he do from a fact-checking perspective…in a speech FULL of fact-based claims?
FactCheck.org says the only thing that they really could fault him on is his claims that the Affordable Care Act has been the catalyst for bringing down the yearly rise of healthcare costs.
Actually, the major provisions of the 2010 law — the individual mandate, federal subsidies to help Americans buy insurance, and big reductions in the growth of Medicare spending — haven’t yet taken effect. Experts mainly blame the lousy economy for the slowdown in health care spending. As a report by economists and statisticians at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services reported last year, for example (as quoted in the Washington Post): “Job losses caused many people to lose employer-sponsored health insurance and, in some cases, to forgo health-care services they could not afford.”
There were some other exaggerations that they cite, but apparently the vast majority of what Clinton said last night checks out.
What did you think about the speech?
