Cell Phone Reviews: Samsung SGHA897 Mythic

Taking a look at the mid-priced Samsung SGHA897 Mythic reveals that Samsung is intent on making a phone for everyone. They have so many good models out that it is hard to make a choice on just one. Take a look here at the offerings from the “Mythic2 and see if it is something you would like to own.

The overall abilities and features of the Samsung Mythic are just under what you can call a “smartphone”. It comes in as a strong-featured “multimedia” cell phone. It has social features like Facebook and Myspace with the push of one button. You will also get television if you are going to use it with AT&T. The user interface is the famous TouchWiz ( version 2.0 ) and makes navigation a pleasure.

This is a touchscreen phone, and does a good job without a manual keyboard. The screen is of a very high quality, visually speaking, and has a resolution of 360 by 640 pixels. That beats the Palm Pixi Plus and some other popular phones. The accelerometer will turn the screen for you automatically when you turn the phone, making the on screen keyboard easy to use. For a small phone it has a large screen. It is 3.3 inches, measured diagonally. That is 8.38 centimeters for those not in the United States. The screen uses the older TFT style of display rather than AMOLED, but there are no complaints about the clarity or brightness of the display. The only complaint about the screen is that it is a resistive touch instead of capacitive touch. It requires a bit more pressure on the screen to make it do what you want.

On the inside you have quad band connectivity using the GSM networks. There is also tri band HSDPA along with GPS. The Samsung Mythic has a browser made by the folks at Opera. You pretty much have it all except WLAN ( Wi-Fi ) and an infrared connection. EDGE, USB, Bluetooth (in stereo ) and email are all available. The television networks you can watch are varied. There are Crackle, Nickelodeon, CBS ( mobile ) CNBC, Comedy Central, ESPN ( mobile ) Fox ( mobile ) Fox News MSNBC, MTV and NBC “2go”. The streaming television is very good quality and a real plus for the multimedia effect of this phone.

With all of the good things to say about the Samsung SGHA897 Mythic there is also the camera. It is a 3.2 pixel model and takes high quality photos. There is autofocus, flash, a self timer, three quality levels, exposure meters and a rare setting to take photos silently. You could say it is a full-featured camera. Top it off with video and you are ready for the world.

The TouchWiz interface from Samsung allows you to customize the phone the way you want it. The onboard speaker is gladly not the only way to listen to music or television. The mythic is weak in the speaker department, but there is a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack to make up for it. With that and the stereo bluetooth, your multimedia experience can be complete. The battery is going to be used up rapidly with the Television mode, so be prepared to get a second one.

This Samsung phone is around $100 dollars with the AT&T rebate or you can order it outright for about $450 dollars. It is a great multimedia phone with a great screen to match.
