Kristen Stewart Plays Rock n Roll In “The Runaways” Biopic
“The Runaways”
A biopic based on the lead-singer of 70’s rock band The Runaways, Cherie Currie, as she unfolds her experiences as a rock star. The story takes place between the years 1975-1977 in California, as a group of teenage girls form a band which later becomes the first all-girl-rock-band to ever break through the masculine world into the arena-filling hard rock acts. The film follows their road to fame as it starts with their release of the first single Cherry Bomb which had a success to some extent in the U.S.A but had a made a meteoric breakthrough in Japan. All goes well, The Runaways tour Japan and receive a gigantic response from the Japanese fans, and their records are selling like hot potatoes, but for Cherie things are starting to look different. From the excitement of being in a band and living to it’s fullest the life style of a rock band, she starts to experience the slow ruin of her personal life and by the time the band gets back to the U.S she leaves them. As the base player decides to leave as well, only three girls are left: Joan Jett, Sandy West and Lita Ford. But Joan is not about to give up, she embraces Cherie’s decision with understanding but is determined to take the band forward, for it is her family and rock & roll is her life. With the band missing 2 important parts, the future for The Runaways was doubtful.
