Mobile Phone Reviews: Samsung S5600 Preston – Blade
The Samsung S5600 is a good mid-range priced phone to whet the appetites of those who are not planning on spending their whole month´s rent ( and then some ) on a phone that may be outdated by the end of the year. Take a look at this phone also called the Samsung “Preston”.
The Samsung S5600 is a good combination of compromises. You have some of the regular problems with the second-tier of any company, but like was just said, it has some compromises. It is highly likely you may like them, as this is a great phone for the price. This phone is compact, it is only 102.8 millimeters tall by 54.8 millimeters wide by 12.9 millimeters thick. It is not slated to be sold in the United States. The screen is a great touchscreen model and weighs in at 7.1 centimeters diagonally. It just a few centimeters smaller than some in its class but you will probably not notice. The screen is clear and is rated at QVGA with 240 by 320 pixels.
The allure of the TouchWiz Samsung operating system is present and installed on this phone. The software on this phone is one of its high points. It is a small step under the iPhone for operation. Samsung made it customizable for you to be able to personalize it for your life. It allows for quick navigation of the device. This particular phone uses its software to identify a smile when it sees it on its camera. The popular accelerometer is included to change the aspect of the screen from vertical to horizontal and back again. It has a propietary web browser, but do not expect to get much performance out of the super small screen.
Speaking of the camera, the S5600 comes with a 3.2 megapixel version with LED flash. Video recording is included and uses messaging, streaming and telephony. For messaging, you can receive a video recognizing the person sending the message with a specific video. The same for receiving calls. The video uses the MP4 ( MPEG-4 ) format.
You have a ton of memory in such a small smartphone. It comes with fifty megabytes of user memory. You can install an external MicroSD card for even larger amounts of memory. You can not remove the MicroSD card while the Samsung S5600 is on. The networks used are GSM, 3G band, GPRS and EDGE. The EDGE and GSM networks are quad band, which are at 850, 900, 1,800, and 1,900 megahertz. One problem you may have with the S5600 is the ability to make a call after unlocking the phone. The battery is not that large at 1000 mAh. The whole package weighs 96 grams.
The folks over at Orange networks changed this phone with the help of Samsung and made it into the “Blade”. That is a S5600 with a different, triangle-shaped D-pad. It is the same phone, with some different packaging. Right now you can get in White, Black or Pink colors. It has great features at a price that will not break you.
