Smartphone Reviews: Motorola Milestone

If you like fast and powerful, Motorola has made a smartphone just for you. It is called the Milestone, and depending on where you live in the world, you can get your hands on one of the best Android smartphone systems. You can also get a better look at the Motorola Milestone right here.

If you live in Europe your chances are very good you will be getting delivery on a “super” smartphone from the Motorola factories called the Milestone. It is a side slider design with the basic black uniform of most smartphones. The screen is extremely detailed and bright. The Milestone could use a faster processor, but the one it has does a good job of keeping up with commands from its user and the great operating system. All the connections are there, including Wi-Fi. You have your choice of a manual or touchscreen QWERTY keyboard.

The Motorola Milestone presents an advanced TFT capacitive touch screen with a size of 3.7 inches. This is comparable with its competition from Nokia and others. As fast as the mobile industry is advancing, the size of a screen will soon be limited only by your use of the device. For now, this is one you can get into your pocket without much hassle with the screen it has. The screen is packed with sixteen million colors for a vivid and realistic version of the world. This screen has true multitouch ability. You can pinch and spread to your heart´s delight. If you were wondering about the browser, it is the high-performance WebKit version HTML5. This is a superior browser with a large following of admirers.

The camera is packed chock full of features that you have come to expect from high-end Motorola devices. But it could have been made with better than five megapixels. For now five megapixels will have to be good enough. It has digital zoom, dual LED flash, geotagging, automatic focus and image stabilizers. You also get to edit images after you take them. Video is captured at 24 frames per second with 720 by 480 pixels of resolution. Streaming media is supported with video and audio. Speaking of audio, a music player is included with stereo speakers and a 3.5 millimeter audio jack for headphones. There has been a reported problem with audio playback with the audio jack, but not for bluetooth. It is expected to be fixed promptly.

The great news about the Motorola Milestone is the Android operating system. This is a big plus for any phone that uses it. The Android system on the Milestone is version 2.1 ( Èclair ). Double tap, haptic feedback and a QWERTY keyboard are included along with your choice of 20,000 applications. This number is growing quickly and you there is no chance you will not be able to use at least five of them. They are that good. Some Android apps can locate the best prices for you, others can close your programs all at once, and still others can get a cab for you in an unfamiliar place. The Android system can wipe your Milestone´s data from a distance with a specially fabricated SMS message. This means your personal data is safe if your phone is lost or stolen.

The identical-twin brother of the Motorola Milestone is the Motorola Droid. The Droid has self-imposed restrictions on it by Motorola for some reason, but these two smartphones are copies in most respects. They both share the same 600 megahertz processor and 256 megabytes of RAM memory. With the Milestone you get an eight gigabyte MicroSD card included. You can use a card up to 32 gigabytes. Quad band GSM and dual band HSDPA networks are supported for voice protocol. Data networks are all the major ones, including 3G. Wi-Fi is supported, but on the slower “b” and “g” modes.

The Motorola Milestone is offered in Europe and coming soon to Canada. It is available many places unlocked for $600 dollars and higher. If you like the best, get your hands on one soon.
