Smartphone Reviews: Samsung Jet S8000
So what is “smarter than a smartphone” ? Samsung claims their flagship Samsung Jet S8000 is just that. It has some powerful features and a fast processor that can get the job done. Read on to find out just what it can do for you.
The people at Samsung are busy creating new variations on the cell phone and smartphone. This is great for everyone who wonders who to go to for their mobile needs. The Samsung Jet is one for the person who needs connectivity and needs it right now. It has a great look and great speed, but importantly, the screen is clear and usable.
The basic looks of the Samsung are in the same category of most smartphones. It has a large 3.1 inch screen that covers most of the front of the device. The size of the Jet is 108.8 millimeters tall by 53.5 millimeters wide by 11.9 millimeters thick. That is less than half an inch in thickness. It only weighs 110 grams, which is comparable to many other flagship models from its competitors. The exterior is covered in plastic and is smooth and comfortable to hold. The back of the smartphone has a woodgrained look that reflects light in a unique way.
The bright screen uses the new AMOLED technology that saves battery juice and extends the time between charging. It is not the capacitive touch type of screen so you may need to use a stylus or your fingernail for navigation. It is great to take a look at with sixteen million colors. The resolution of the screen is an impressive 480 by 800 pixels. This beats many other smartphones in its category. For comparison, the latest model iPhone is 320 by 480 pixels.
Operation and navigation is a real pleasure with the Samsung Jet S8000. It has an internet browser and Wi-Fi. You have the option to browse up to five web sites at one time with the custom interface. This interface is called “Touchwiz” by Samsung and has features that others have yet to develop. For instance, you can shake the smartphone in a predetermined direction and bring up the camera. You can shake the Jet in a different direction and bring up the music menu. There is no need to touch the screen to bring up many things. You can draw shapes on the screen and bring up other programs also. All these features are backed up by a 800 megahertz processor so that there is no lag when you make your choices. Social media is fully included on the Jet. Facebook and others are there. There is no manual keyboard. Instead, using the on-screen keyboard is easy. The accelerometer changes the screen for you to use it like a manual keyboard automatically just by moving the Jet to the horizontal position. The main button for control is a large hexagonal button that sits near the bottom of the smartphone when held vertically.
The camera is a full-featured model with five megapixels of power. It also has autofocus, LED flash, geotagging, and can decide if a person is smiling or blinking. No more problems with closed eyes in your photos of your friends. The camera can also take videos at a respectable thirty frames per second. The five megapixel camera makes very good quality photos and you have your choice of using the two gigabyte Jet version or the eight gigabyte version for keeping your photos safe. With either version you have a MicroSD card slot to increase the memory capacity dramatically. If you are a music lover the S8000 also has a lot to offer with a music player that includes DNSE ( Digital Natural Sound Engine ) technology and Dolby surround sound. A 3.5 millimeter audio jack is included.
You can get connected to quad band GSM and dual band HSDPA networks. This will depend on where you live. The Samsung Jet S8000 is meant for an European audience. All the “regular” connections like email, SMS, USB and bluetooth are included. There is an FM radio when you need the local news and a video output to television for showing graphics and video.
Perhaps a review of saying what the Samsung Jet S8000 does “not” have would have been better ! Nevertheless, Samsung is putting out great products with this one being a recent stunning example.
