Cell Phone Reviews: HTC Hero Smartphone
Is the HTC Hero the Superman of smartphones ? What can this phone running the popular google platform do ? It has been decscribed by some as “daring”. You make your own decision. Take a look at this short article and learn more.
The phone looks gorgeous and feels good in the hand. This phone is just a tad thicker than an iPhone and about the same weight. It has a bigger “chin” than what people are accustomed to, but it is a nice change. It has a professional and modern feel to it that lets you know it was manufactured with good quality and forward thinking. That bigger “chin” actually makes it easier to hold. It comes with an “oleophobic” coating on the white version that repels oil and water from the skin or other sources. This is a “nice touch”. The iPhone 3GS has the same coating.
The camera on the HTC Hero is a big upgrade. It has a five megapixel rating with autofocus and no flash capability. The crisp photos are nice, but the autofocus takes too long to focus. This camera also has video, but it has a low resolution, at 352 by 288 pixels, so the images are a bit blurred if they are going fast during the filming with the Hero.
The big thing about the Hero is its operating system. It comes with the android operating system, created by google. This operating system is blowing others out of the water. HTC improves upon it even further by adding their own widgets and menus. HTC also has a custom application ( “app” as they are popularly called ) called PEEP. This app has the popular url-shortening service included so you can install your shortened links in your tweets and updates. This system can also give you good internet capability with the included WebKit browser. You are given no less than seven home screens to customize your experience with this device. Facebook and flickr are some of the social networks you can keep track of on your HTC Hero, thanks to the android system.
The processor is running at 528 megahertz, which is getting slow and behind the times already. This phone is only slightly slow to use. The screen is a touch model with multi-touch and automatic dimming. It is 3.2 inches in size. The Hero has a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack. The RAM memory is just average and 288 megabytes in size. There is 133 megabytes of internal memory and space for a MicroSD card. You will need to remove the battery cover to get to the memory card. A two gigabyte MicroSD card is inluded with the Hero. The Hero runs on CDMA networks. The battery is a big plus. It is a hulking 1500 mAh in size. It also comes with Wi-Fi, a microUSB connector and bluetooth capability.
American and European models are essentially the same. This smartphone is a welcome event and its numerous abilities and handsome looks are sure to please its owner. The worst thing about it is that it is a slow, but only at various times. If you can handle that, you should take a look at the HTC Hero for yourself.
