Cell Phone Reviews: How Smart Is The New Nokia C5?

Nokia has even more plans for the expansion of their phone line with the addition of a new category of phones. The new lineup starts with the letter “C”. The little C5 is the first example of the new phone ideas at Nokia. Read on to find out more about this phone.

Nokia calls this C5 model a smartphone. Is it ? You can be the one to make that decision. For now, this Nokia model runs the Symbian S60 system on its boards and is good for social networking. If you are one of those folks who likes keeeping in contact with Facebook and MySpace, this phone is one you may like.

The price has been kept low for a good reason for this small phone. Nokia plans on selling it to a lot of people, and right now, a lot of people have less money than they did one year ago. That is a smart move. The screen is not a touchscreen, but it is 2.2 inches on a device that is just 4.4 inches tall and 1.8 inches wide. The screen is measured diagonally. The screen is a TFT version with 240 by 320 pixels of resolution which is also not bad for an inexpensive phone. It weighs 89.3 grams.

The Nokia C5 comes with free Ovi Maps that include the famous turn-by-turn directions with voice. The C5 obviously comes with GPS to make this happen.  Nokia messaging is also included as a piece of the S60 Symbian software. A web browser is included as well as email, SMS, MMS, AMS, push email, internet messaging and RSS. RSS stands for “really simple syndication”.

This Nokia phone is made with high quality. Unlike most smartphones, it is made with a lot of metal. The bright chrome trim is refreshing in a world of plastic chrome trim. The DPad has the same refreshing look. The phone pad buttons on the front of the phone are large and easy to push while other buttons for on and off are made of brightly polished metal.

The camera performs well and has 3.2 megapixels of power and LED flash. It is usable for video and can record at a slow fifteen frames per second. You are given a two gigabyte MicroSD card along with your purchase of the phone for storage of your photos, music or other files.

The C5 actually has a fairly fast processor inside. It hums along at 600 megahertz and is made by ARM. This is a popular manufacturer of mobile processors.

Nokia is using the GSM and 3G networks for voice communication for their C5 phone. For wireless data, there is bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE and 3G ( HSDPA ). The battery is exceptional for the size of the phone and has 1050 mAh of power available. That is proposed to make it last for twelve hours of talk time.
With all of the above included in such a small package, you may wonder what the price is going to be for the C5. It is planned on being released at around $183 dollars or €135 euros. That is an unlocked price. It will be available in those famous “select areas” around April, although it is rumored to already be available in Asia. Look for more “C” series phones to be released by Nokia soon.
