Mobile Phones: Nokia 5230 Nuron Smartphone Review

If you are the type to watch your budget, but still like to have the latest in smartphones, the Nokia 5230 Nuron is the phone for you. This is selling for an incredible price yet has a nice touchscreen interface. Take a closer look at this inexpensive smartphone here in this short article.

This Nuron offering from Nokia is not the different phone from the 5230 announced earlier. It is the same phone and uses the same model number plus one other model number; “5233″. Sorry to all those who thought they were going to get two different models. Nevertheless, this phone is just about ready to be released. It is going to have a great price.

The screen on the Nuron is 3.2 inches and is a resistive touchscreen style. This is the style that needs a little more pressure from your finger or fingernail to navigate the smartphone with, but for this price, who cares ? It has the coveted and fun feature of being able to turn the phone and have the screen-position change also. This is handy for viewing those web pages or pumping out a text message or two. The screen resolution is in the medium range of clarity at 360 by 480 pixels.

The size of the phone is just 4.37 inches tall by 2.03 inches wide by .57 inch thick. That is 111 millimeters tall by 51.7 millimeters wide by 15.5 millimeters thick. It weighs just under four ounces or 113 grams.

The inside workings are taken care of by the Symbian system. The processor runs at a respectable 434 megahertz. That is fast for Symbian. The processor is manufactured by the people at ARM and is version eleven. One of the free things given to the owners of this smartphone is Ovi maps. This is a turn-by-turn direction finder for the world. If you have a turn-by-turn direction program in your car, then you know how handy this can be. The news is that this one comes free with the Nokia 5230 Nuron. Since this software was released in January of this year ( 2010 ) it has been downloaded more than three million times. Translate that to a daily number and you get 100,000 downloads per day. Yes, it is a popular application. The maps that are included for free are for the areas of the United States, Canada and Mexico.  Also thrown in for free are suggestions from the popular web site Lonelyplanet.com, a site about traveling in the world.

The Nuron will be able to connect to quad band GSM voice networks and dual band WCDMA voice networks. For data, there will be HSDPA at the 3.6 version. Wi-Fi is not included, but bluetooth is included. You can connect to the local radio stations with the stero FM radio. Other hardware connections are the 3.5 headphone jack and microUSB connector. If you need more space for memory there is the MicroSD card slot for a card of up to sixteen gigabytes. That is enough room for around 4681 songs of average size. Internal memory is rated at seventy megabytes.

The battery is big for a small phone since it is for sure this smartphone is going to be used quite often. It is 1320 mAh in size which results in a talk time of around seven hours. It will last on standby for eighteen days. The camera takes photos at the two megapixel level and can also take video. The camera is fast for such an inexpensive smartphone and can take video at thirty frames per second. The maximum length for a video is ninety minutes.
There is not much of a wait for this phone. It will be out within a few weeks and will be sold at an unheard-of $70 dollars with a two year plan at T-Mobile.
