Mobile Phone Reviews: Dell Aero Smartphone

Small, light and powerful is the name of the game for Dell and its new “Aero” smartphone. It looks similar to one of their earlier offerings. Take a look at this short article and find out more on the Dell Aero.

This is a copy of the earlier “Mini 3″ phone from Dell a while back. It boasts of being the lightest phone using the super popular Android platform. AT&T is going to be the carrier offering this phone and calls the new Aero their “exclusive” smartphone. It is the second smartphone that AT&T has on their inventory that uses the Android operating system. The phone weighs 102 grams. That is 3.6 ounces for those in North America. It is DellĀ“s first try at selling smartphones in the United States.

The screen on the Aero is a 3.5 inch model and touts a “NHD” display. Workers in the video industry say that just means “not high definition”. It is literally a rate of “one ninth” of the 1080P resolution. 1080P is considered high definition. The actual numbers for resolution are 640 by 360 pixels. This is very good clarity for a smartphone screen of this size. The Aero does not have a manual keyboard so the screen is the touchscreen variety. The smartphone has the now-normal ability to display pages and images in portrait or landscape mode automatically just by turning the phone to the side. It also comes with multitouch or “pinch and zoom” as some like to call it. Some people are asking; “Where are the buttons ?”. The Aero has no buttons on the front, all navigation is done on the touchscreen.

The navigation is controlled by the aforementioned Android operating system. This is the “bees knees” in software at the moment. New applications are being made by the hundreds per day. For now, the Android system has over 30,000 applications or “apps”, that make life easier for its users. From keeping track of your contacts in real-time using GPS, to saving money using the bar code scanner, you will be amazed at what a smartphone equipped with the Android software can do. Dell has put into the Aero phone an automatic connection to twitpic, youtube, picasa, facebook and flickr web sites to be able to enjoy social networking. AT&T says that the social networking apps are “fully integrated” into the phonebook of the Aero. The workers at Dell have installed a user interface to go over the Android system for a more user-friendly experience when navigating the Aero. The type of browser should be the WebKit browser, which is a very high quality and speedy pleasure to get around on the internet with. All the other services that are expected of a smartphone, like email, SMS, MMS and more are included with the Android Aero.

The data connections on the Dell Aero include 20,000 Wi-Fi hotspots, ( in the United States ) since the Aero is equipped with a WLAN. It also uses GPS, EDGE, GPRS and Bluetooth. For voice, you have both 2G and 3G networks with quad band GSM and dual band HSDPA. For cable connections, there is a mini ( not a “micro” ) USB connection. There is no 4G ( WiMax ) connection.
The Dell Aero has a powerful five megapixels of strength in its camera. It is on the back of the smartphone and comes with flash, autofocus and geotagging. What is geotagging ? That is the ability to assign a location to a photo you take with the phone based on the world-wide GPS points. In simpler terms it means you can take a photo and remember where you were at the time you took it. For music lovers, the Aero has a music player.

The smartphone is covered in plastic and for now is in one color; black. The battery is a 1000 mAh version so do not expect long talk times for the Aero. This phone is already out in China and Brazil and is going to be released soon to the United States.
