Tomorrow: The 114th Boston Marathon
The Boston Marathon starting gun will be shooting tomorrow, Monday, April 19th 2010, for the 114th time. Just under 30,000 participants will be running in the marathon, which is the world’s oldest one.
This year’s race is supposed to be a very competitive and fast one, due to the elite field. Although last year had the closest women’s finish ever, this year you should look out for Maidai Perez from Mexico who owns the fastest winning time.
The dramatic eruption of the Icelandic volcano has further consequences than the obvious ones, as it has an enormous effect on the European airspace. Flights have been cancelled, therefore preventing contestants from arriving from Europe. One of the runners who had to withdraw his participation is the Moroccan runner Abdellah Falil.
As the race starts at Hopkinton, MA, it will end in downtown Boston with varying starting times that are made according to elite status and gender: 9:22 a.m beginning of the cycle participants; 9:32 a.m Elite Women; 10 a.m Men and Wave One start; 10:30 Wave Two. The award ceremony will take place at the Fairmony Copley Plaza, Grand Ballroom at 05:00 p.m
