Crystal Bowersox Gives Us “People Get Ready” on American Idol

Instrument free and looking great, Crystal Bowersox gave another dazzling performance on latest episode of “American Idol”, April 20.

This week’s theme on “American Idol” was Inspirational Songs week for “Idol Gives Back”, the Wednesday night’s star-filled special. As the top seven contestants each gave their show, artist Alicia Keys tried to give them her own encouragement. But there is no doubt that the performance that left the most impression was the one of Crystal Bowersox who chose to sing the Curtis Mayfield song classic, gospel-influenced “People Get Ready”. The performance was apparently very emotional for her, and Crystal said that the reason is that it was the first time that her father saw her performing on the show. When she saw him in the audience she couldn’t help but to break down in tears.

“People Get Ready” which was originally performed by The Impressions” had also been numerously covered by artists such as U2, Bob Dylan and Seal, as it’s social and political elements are always relevant.

Seeing Crystal perform on the show is not to be taken for granted, after she nearly quit due to hospitalization she went through for her diabetes disease.
