Earthquake Hits Taipei in Taiwan
A Powerful quake has hit parts of Taiwan, shaking buildings in the capital, Taipei, whilst there are no first reports of severe casualties.
The quake was valued at a magnitude of 6.4 by the US Geological Survey.
It was centred off the east coast of Taiwan, about 25km (12 miles) south-east of Hualien, at a depth of 45km.
Taiwan is on a regular basis hit by minor quakes though an earthquake in 1999 killed nearly 2,500 people.
No tidal wave alert was instantly given by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre.
Localised media reported the collapse of one building near Taipei, where constructions juddered for about 30 seconds.
The reports spoke of 4 minor casualties in the capital and interruptions of some rail networks.
