Mobile Phone Reviews: Pantech Link

The mobile world gives us a few good selections at times with strange names. The Pantech Link is one such device. It looks good and performs okay. Take a quick look at it here.

The Pantech Link is not the worlds most powerful messaging phone but it is built to look that way. The back cover is coated in a great feeling rubber material. The manual keyboard is solid and has good tactile feedback. The screen is a bit small, but a bit average in size for a non-touch screen. It is thin and goes into a pocket easily. It does what it was created to do well. That is send texts and view the web occasionally. At first look, the Pantech looks like a Blackberry, which is usually a good thing.

The screen on the Pantech is 2.4 inches in size. It is not going to be of much use to those who want to do lots of surfing on the web. You will not be able to do any “pinches and zooms” with this screen, as the only navigating is done with the manual keyboard. The resolution is set to 320 by 240 pixels, common for many mobile phones. The screen does have a few nice adjustments that can be made in settings. The backlight time, brightness, menu type, appearance of the clock and font style as well as text on the home screen can all be changed.

The manual keyboard for the Link is nice for an inexpensive phone. It has a raised button for each key and enough space in between each key to let most everyone do some quality texting without mistakes. The external buttons on the sides of the Pantech are volume on the left and camera button on the right. They have a curve to them that makes them easy to use.
The camera is not one to write home about. It is a 1.3 megapixel model. It has the small mirror next to the lens on the back that allows you to take an accurate picture of yourself ( or of you and your sweetheart ). There is no flash or autofocus or things of those nature.

The Pantech comes with a modern service that allows you to save your contacts on the AT&T server. That way you never lose them. You can also adjust them online without having the need for a cell phone. Just login with your regular computer and alter them to your heart´s content. Another thing you may like about the Pantech Link is the fact that you can record a call and send it to memory. From there you can load it onto a MicroSD card and send it to a PC or MAC.

The Link comes with a speedy 3G data connection if you do happen to want to surf the web. The wired connections are not friendly. There is no 3.5 millimeter headphone jack, but it has a smaller propietary jack. There is not MicroUSB charging slot. It uses the same special Pantech connector for charging as it does for audio. The battery is small but seems to last a long time, seven hours in fact. The battery is just 930 mAh in size. Call quality on the Link is average. This phone is a deal for what you are getting for your money. It is available since April 18, for $9.99 with mail in rebate and a contract from AT&T
