Bomb Scare On Times Square Caused Evacuation
Smoke coming out of a car near New York’s Times Square caused panic and a mass evacuation May 2, 18:30.
A suspicious car caught the attention of people going by, as the Nissan Pathfinder, parked on 45th Street had caught fire. The NYPD bomb squad arrived immediately to handle the vehicle, and closed off the block between Seventh and Eighth avenues. The police shared no information with the crowd regarding the time it would take them to finish up, and so many people who had Broadway show tickets had to make other plans. The shows that were affected by the bomb scare were “The Lion King” and “Next To Normal”. In other cases some of the theaters were evacuated and in others the audience was not allowed out.
The findings were a fake registration number, and after a robot was used to search the back of the car, they also found a box containing gasoline, gunpowder and other materials.
For the people who feel they need to recap the evacuation scene, thanks to live webcams which are pointed at the square 24\7, the whole event was streamed live on the web and is still available to watch online.
