American Airlines Flight Crashes On Landing in Jamaica
An American Airlines plane transporting 154 people slipped off the runway and broke up in 2 on Tues nighttime after putting down in Kingston, Jamaica, reported by local news articles. At least forty people were alleged to be hurt.
Airline spokesman Charley Wilson said in a brief statement there were no reports of fatalities in the accident that occured about 10:22 p.m. local time.
The plane from Miami was transporting 148 passengers and 6 crew members, the airline said.
“The injured passengers have been taken to the Kingston Public Hospital,” Information Minister Daryl Vaz told the Jamaica Observer. “There are no reports of fatalities.”
Further details weren’t accessible, however passengers at the airport told local media that the aeroplane tried to land in heavy rainfall when the crash happened.
Kingston police officer Oneil Hinds at police HQ stated policemen at the scene described the plane ran off the end of the runway. He said the airplane was damaged but didn’t break up.
The flight initiated in Washington, D.C., before going on to Miami.
“The plane crashed and broke almost in front of me,” passenger Naomi Palmer told the Jamaica Observer. Palmer also said she was in some pain.
Emergency vehicle sirens could be heard as she spoke via cell phone.
