Cell Phone Reviews: Samsung Rogue U960
This is a great phone for those in the world who like smartphones but do not need or want one. The “Samsung Rogue U960″ is a feature phone with the smartphone looks. It has the feature phone price also. Read more about it below.
This “Rogue” phone is around the same size as many smartphones and has a slider format. It really looks good and the screen is gorgeous. It comes with the Samsung TouchWiz interface and a full QWERTY keyboard that thankfully slides out horizontally. The manual keyboard has four rows with the top row displaying numbers. It is just over four inches tall and weighs about the same as the average smartphone. It is a bit fatter than one at .65 inches.
Samsung is super at making screens for their products and the Rogue is one of those specimens. Believe it or not they gave it a 480 by 800 pixel resolution. That is huge ! The screen is 3.1 inches and created with the newer technology AMOLED display. It is bright, vivid and Verizon themselves call it “ultra brilliant”. It looks like the rest of the mobile world is going to be playing catch-up to Samsung screens.
The memory capacity is not that bad on the Rogue. It has 512 megabytes of internal memory. This is also available to be used as storage. If that is not enough there is a slot for a MicroSD card that boosts that much further. The largest card that can be used is sixteen gigabytes.
The call connections are based on Verizon´s networks and include CDMA in two bands; 850 and 1900. For data connections the Rogue sports a “1xEV-DO rA” connection. That will allow a good bit of web surfing at around 2.4 megabytes per second. The Rogue is equipped with an Infraware Polaris 6.1 web browser with full HTML capability. The Rogue also has stereo bluetooth, and a 3.5 millimeter head phone jack for privacy.
The camera is a three megapixel model. That is not much these days for a smartphone, but remember, this is just a feature phone with the smartphone looks. The camera has been given some special abilities by the Samsung software in the phone. It can edit photos and take video and has an LED flash. The Rogue comes with a music player, and with a Verizon account can use the V Cast music option.
The maual keyboard is attractive and the screen on the Rogue gives a nice background while typing. The buttons are responsive and do not give a problem even to those with slightly bigger fingers.
The Samsung TouchWiz interface can use the Verizon VZ navigator suite to help you find out where businesses or other places are near you. It checks out your GPS location and adds the businesses or points of interest to your screen in a matter of seconds. It looks great with the huge screen and colorful widgets.
The battery on the Rogue will be good for talking up to 4.7 hours. They give a choice of one color; black. Oh well. You can buy this phone for the “low, low price” of $99 dollars. If you are lucky, and Verizon is having a “Big Red” sale, you can get a rebate for the $99 dollars and essentially get it for free. Make sure you can afford the data plan if you want to use it on the internet. Enjoy the screen !
