Smartphone Reviews: HTC Tilt 2 – Updating the Touch Pro
HTC is hard at work giving the upper level smartphones to the public. Consider the HTC Tilt 2. It is an update to the Touch Pro. It is detailed here in this quick article.
The size and weight on the HTC Tilt 2 is a bit larger than most smartphones. It weighs in at a 6.61 ounces. It may make this the sumo wrestler of smartphones. Seriously, the height is also close to five inches ( 4.59 ) which may make it unsuitable for pocket use. For comparison, the Nokia N8 is just 4.76 ounces and the Google Phone is 4.59 ounces. The HTC Tilt 2 has a nice chrome trim around the edges, which lends a more professional look to the unit.
The screen is created with nice clarity, this model has 480 by 800 pixel resolution. That is way above the average display. The size is 3.6 inches, which is a notch above average. It is the LCD style of display, which is not as bright than as the newer AMOLED style. It shows a maximum of 65,536 colors, another average number for mobile units. As you may already know the “tilt” in the name of the device is the ability to make the screen tilt into the direction of the manual keyboard after you slide that keyboard out. Under the screen is the call, end call and Windows buttons.
Inside the HTC Tilt 2 you have the Windows Mobile Pro ( Pocket PC ) operating system. This is an advanced system with social contact abilities. It carries the internet explorer browser, which is popular, but is a bit less of a browser than say opera or webkit. The Windows system is overlaid with the HTC TouchFLO 3D user interface. “User interface” is a geeky term for “presentation”. HTC glams up the presentation of the Windows system with their own idea of how the menus should look. Instant messaging and email are available with the Windows system.
More things on the inside of the Tilt 2 include a Qualcomm MSM 7201A 528 megahertz processor. This is about half the speed of the Google Phone. The memory numbers are 512MB ROM and 288MB of RAM. Bluetooth connectivity is standard as well as Wi-Fi up to the “G” mode. “N” mode is the newest and faster standard. The people at HTC did not give the Tilt 2 a 3.5 millimeter head phone jack. They did give it a video connector for monitor and a mini ( not micro ) USB connector. A MicroSD card slot is inluded for monster levels of memory. The radio can be activated but is locked up from the factory.
On the back of the HTC Tilt2 is the camera. It is 3.15 megapixels in size. It has autofocus but not much else. It does take streaming video that you can output to a monitor in seven different formats. Video sharing is enabled so you can share videos with your contacts.
The battery is a huge size. It is 1500 mAh. You can get this battery to last around eight and a half hours talking on 2G networks. Talking on 3G networks will be less at six and a half hours.
