A Brief Nine Review and Nine Trailer
We would all like to exist in an Italian film. So alleges a character in “Nine,†and it is in all probability the finest line in this musical theater dud.
“Nine†has glamor. Rome appears incredible, equally does Daniel Day-Lewis. But there is no meaning below the glossiness. For an homage to director Federico Fellini, who made such psychologically intricate and poetical movies, it is astonishingly bland.
Day-Lewis plays Guido Contini, a movie maker who’s creatively blocked. Disturbed, he flirts with his fancy woman (Penelope Cruz), assures his wife (Marion Cotillard), appeases his producer (Ricky Tognazzi) and searches inspiration from his muse (Nicole Kidman).
