How to develop apps for the Apple iPAD

By now, you must have seen or heard about the new Apple iPAD and the immense number of applications that are available. You might have even given some thought to turning your hand to developing for this new platform, but wondered where to start? I even looked at this myself but sadly there are just not enough hours in the day.

Even so, I wanted to see what was involved in developing not just for the iPAD, but the iPhone and iTouch as well – and it seems it isn’t as complicated as I initially thought! Whilst searching through the thousands of sites, I came across one that has some beginners guides to iPAD Development.

iPAD Development is based on a form of ‘C’ called Objective-C. The major difference here is the addition of what is known as “Small Talk” which simplifies the commands used programming.

Step 1 to developing for the iPAD

It seems that in order to become an iPAD developer, you need to first register with Apple and download their SDK (Software Development Kit). Once you have this downloaded, you then essentially have your own development platform. Apple have loads of resources to help you work your way through the different frameworks you will be using.

But before starting, it is worthwhile reading a little more on what makes a good application and some considerations that need to be given to developing for the iPAD. Making sure that your application is easy to use and navigate around is imperative. The ‘Human Interface’ is going to stick in peoples minds – if it isn’t easy to use, chances are they wont continue to use it.

Remember, your applications have to be that bit better than others out there, so do your research and pay heed to what is going to make your apps stand out from the crowd.
