Smartphone Reviews: the LG Panther with Windows 7
The LG company is putting out a new line of smartphones. It uses the Windows Phone 7 system. There is not a lot of news yet about final names for the phones, but the future has been revealed in the details. Take a quick look at the new LG Windows Phone 7 here.
LG and Microsoft have been showing off their first Windows Phone 7 handset. They called it the “Panther”. Is it to spite the people at Apple ? Probably not. Apple had an operating system back in the day called “Panther”. But this smartphone is nothing similar. This new version of the Windows Phone 7 system is a replacement of the last Windows Mobile system. It is geared towards a better user experience.
The LG Panther is ahead of the pack, so to speak. It is the first smartphone to show this new operating system from Windows. Will this help to make Windows the number one mobile operating system again ? Time will tell. The Panther has a look similar to the popular Motorola Droid. The manual keyboard slides out from under the screen in a horizontal fashion. It will come in a virtual screen version also.
It is possible you will see this smartphone called the “LG WP7″ or the “LG GW910″ on other sites. Many cell phones and smartphones have “pre-launch” names given to them. This one is no different. The outside of the box on the Panther points to the “social” aspect of the device. It is labeled “Powerful Social Media Companion” in large letters. This points to being a unit that can handle social networks like Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare ( their security issue is fixed for now ) and perhaps others.
Users will find the LG Panther to be a quick smartphone. At the same time in this early stage, it is not yet compatible with Zune software. The system is laid out in “hubs”, but after that, not much is known. Speed and power are important, but so are features. It will probably sport a 1000 megahertz processor.
One featured detail that has been revealed on the Panther is the camera. It is a five megapixel version. A bit is also known about the screen. The screen is rated at WVGA or HVGA. Some say it is going to be an AMOLED version. This would help with battery life and ease of use under direct sunlight. If you are not familiar with AMOLED, it is the successor to LCD. It uses LED´s to directly power the display, instead of a separate LED lighting up liquid crystals.
The people at Microsoft Windows have placed this unit under the “Chassis 2″ category. This means the Panther will also have Wi-Fi and GPS. It is not known if the Wi-Fi will be at the latest “N” mode or not. It most likely will. It will probably not have WiMaX. This is being included on some other popular smartphones.
The Windows Phone 7 platform is completely new. The Panther ( GW910 ) is also a new creation. The future will be interesting as LG goes head to head with other manufacturers. The mobile race has been raging for quite a few years now. This is a great next step for LG and Windows.
