A touch screen replaces the QWERTY keyboard on the Blackberry Storm2
The Blackberry Storm2 is a break from tradition for Blackberry, incorporating as it does a touch screen rather than a QWERTY keyboard on the front face. Recently released, this unit has become a popular handset due to the Blackberry name and all that the brand stands for.
Connectivity is one of the main facets of this unit and it comes with a whole array of connection options, from GPRS, EDGE through to blue tooth and micro-USB connections, this handset offers them all. In addition, the HSDPA and Wi Fi connections provide internet access at speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps as well as the ability to access nationally available Wi Fi hotspots. The GPS function which includes A-GPS support and Blackberry maps offers satellite navigation.
The Blackberry Storm2 utilises the Blackberry operating system and also has a 3.25 inch TFT capacitive touch screen. The screen is colourful in many ways due to its ability to display 65,000 colours, with the option of landscape viewing by virtue of the accelerometer sensor which automatically rotates imagery dependent upon the orientation of the phone. Vibration and ring alert types are included with the ability to utilise MP3 ringtones as standard. A speakerphone and 3.5 mm audio jack is also included within the package.
The phone has 2 GB of internal memory, with the option to increase this up to 16 GB by utilising the microSD card slot which is built into the unit. A 3.15 mega pixel camera is included and operates at 2048 x 1536 pixels and comes with a whole array of photo taking aids. These include auto focus, image stabilisation and geo-tagging as well as an LED flash for illumination. The camera is also able to capture video which ensures an alternative to still imagery.
For entertainment purposes, the unit provides an MP4/MP3 player as well as a variety of games with the option of being able to download further games for entertainment. The player will play all major audio and video file formats. An organiser and voice memo function are included as well as a document editor, which can open Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF file types.
The Blackberry Storm2, has many similarities to the Blackberry 8520 curve , both are competent and useful handsets with an emphasis on communication and connectivity. The numerous functions within this handset are all useful and relevant to the handsets capabilities and functionality.
