The Alcatel 800 has an endearing look

The Alcatel 800 is an interesting and quirky mobile phone from Alcatel. A colourful band encompasses the handset and gives it an unusual look. However what is prevalent about this particular handset is its meaningful functionality coupled with its affordability. Released in July 2009 this handset has proved to be popular for a variety of reasons, one of which is its ease of use.

The handset is available in a variety of colours which include apple green, titanium grey, hot pink, cherry red and ocean blue as well as white. It comes with a 2.2 inch TFT display screen which operates at a pixel resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and is able to display up to 256,000 colours. This means the images that are displayed on the screen are colourful and vibrant. The front face is also taken up by a QWERTY keyboard and a scroll wheel. The Alcatel 800 White comes with a 20 MB internal memory, but this can be significantly increased, up to 4 GB by utilising the integrated microSD card slot. Connectivity is not an issue with this handset as it comes with both GPRS and EDGE which are class 12, as well as blue tooth and USB both of which are version 2.

Several games are included as means of entertainment as well as a stereo FM radio with RDS and an MP4/MP3 player. Downloaded video and audio files can be played comfortably with this unit as well as the ability to listen to a wide variety of radio broadcasts. In addition a 2.0 megapixel camera is provided which operates at a pixel resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels and has the added bonus of being able to capture video as an alternative to still imagery.

The unit incorporates a document viewer, which will open Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF documents. An integrated organiser offers the means to keep track of useful and pertinent information and appointments. A calculator and voice memo facility complete the ensemble of functionality.

The White Alcatel 800 is one of the recently released colour variants and has proved to be popular. Its affordability is one of the key elements that attracts many people to this handset, however upon reviewing the functionality, it is apparent there are many other features that have contributed to it being a popular handset.
