James Cameron’s sci-fi larger-than-life ‘Avatar’ began Friday and sold tickets worth $3.5 million in North America and Canada, less than what a lot anticipated the much buzzed-about film to earn on the curtain raising day.

‘Avatar,’ an effects-extravaganza set on the planet Pandora which humans colonise in order to pillage its natural resource by suppressing its blue-skinned dwellers, has been acquiring rave critiques and plentiful publicity.

James Cameron’s popularity as the director of ‘Titanic’ and ‘Terminator’ could solely have brought forth a greater audience interest. Nonetheless, the film did not draw in much of the younger audience and teenaged girls in particular. In fact, older gentlemen had booked more advanced tickets than teens.

Nonetheless, 20th Century Fox anticipates something between $50 million and $60 million from North America and $100 million from foreign countries in weekend-ticket sales.

Ticket prices of this big budget 3D movie are higher by 3-5 dollars in more than half of the theatres where ‘Avatar’ is playing. 20th Century Fox, Dune Entertainment and Ingenious Film Partners have together dished out $310 million in its production and $150 million in marketing.

Audience-tracking surveys suggest that ‘Avatar’ will gross about $80 million in the week in North America.

In that case, the film will break the December-debut record held by ‘I Am Legend’ that earned $77.2 million two years ago.

Avatar is a 2009 Hollywood 3-D science fiction larger-than-life movie written and directed by James Cameron, and was released on December 16, 2009 by 20th Century Fox.

To refresh things Jake Sully is a marine paraplegic, who will have to infiltrate a strange indigenous people called the Na’vis on the distant planet of Pandora. A mission which aims to encourage these people to move, and thus leave the field open to ruthless industrialists so that they can exploit the precious ore from the ground. For this, it will use an avatar, a body he can control the mind, adapted to the conditions of life on this planet. During the mission, he will get to know these people, and nothing will ever be the same.

It’s often stated that James Cameron “invented the cinema of tomorrow, this is indeed the case with this masterpiece. In fact, he invented a new way of telling stories by delivering a film completely designed for 3D, impressive by its beauty, immersive desire, and makes us live the adventure in his heart, as close to its protagonists . The 3D quality is no longer here in the service of an amusement park but rather than a true history of cinema for a show that goes at full speed, inhabited by more Na’vis than life, with features very expressive facial movements that make Avatar a fascinating film if not a perfect one. A story that takes the road that James Cameron manages to tell us with ease, it spoke to many without being silly on the Avatar to the level of popular entertainment quality in the best sense of the term.

The images provided in the promotion of the film and the promise of a technical achievement with the use of 3D enabled us to wait a minimum of escape … and this is the maximum that can be harvested. Avatar takes us actually on another world, “another planet” with its vegetation, giving us shots constantly dynamic, without it turning to the effect gadget. He mastered the technology at his disposal, James Cameron showed again his qualities as a director until his choices make a real blow to the film, it can really be called a “revolution” the word is proving for once not at all exaggerated. There is, throughout the film, amazed by the realism of characters rendered in computer graphics, to the extent they are more significant than human, real, and it was not an easy task. So yes, technology has taken a big leap forward with this film and yes, James Cameron knows how to use the great recipes for us to discover a story both simple, but extremely uncommon. One way or another, Avatar will mark the history of cinema and will resemble the film tomorrow. While it is in the hands of directors renamed the same as James Cameron, one can hardly complain.

The most expensive, also, The New York Times even speaking of 500 million dollar budget (production costs + Marketing included)! An astronomical sum for a film special?

It is the opinion of its director, who proclaims to anyone who will listen that his film will revolutionize the cinema, especially in terms of digital technology. Because Avatar is expected for projection and 3D high definition next generation, the film was shot using prototype cameras at the forefront of recent technological advances. A month before the film’s release event (scheduled for December 16 in France), the American newspaper is the question of profit.

Neither Tom Rothman and Jim GianopoulosBridge 20th Century Fox, or Jon LandauThe executive producer or Cameron have sought to respond to interview requests made to the article. Only comment, but a hint, that of Rupert Murdoch , Boss of News Corporation, owner of Fox during a news conference announcing an unexpected increase of 11% results from the studio: I am confident in our results for the coming season. Avatar than moved me so excited . Analysts believe however that if the film did not cross the 250 million revenue on American soil, The Fox and News Corp. could have their accounts seriously go into the red …

With such a budget, the film going to send it to repay its cost? Not sure! 20th Century Fox, which produced the film, relying on the reputation of its director to make it a success. After all, James Cameron is none other than the director Titanic The film broke all records at the box office in 1998. That said, Fox is unlikely she not fat, at a time when few studios such as Miramax and the Weinstein Company are on the brink of bankruptcy? According to the NY Times, still, the studio had planned the coup and is not the only group embarked on the adventure. Thus, Fox breaks the limits in hiring outside investors able to pay their share of debt in the event of a mishap. James Cameron himself has invested heavily in this film, so much so that payers can not recover their money, he agreed to lose his own participation. In case of failure of Avatar The studio’s secret weapon is unexpected: Alvin & the chimpmunks: the squeakuel , Following the surprise success of 2007 on U.S. screens, one week after Avatar .

Meanwhile, Cameron has so exceeded the initial budget (around 300 million dollars, which is already a HUGE blockbuster! For comparison, Transformers 2 has cost 100 million less), he was forced to dip into his own savings to achieve complete his film as he intended. Man is an expert in budget overruns. At the time of filming Titanic The cost of the film amounted to 110 million, and finally at the end of the assembly, the pain had increased to 200 million! What panic studios, right? For comparison, if Titanic should be made today, its budget would amount to nearly 300 million …

Do not panic, “said Cameron, who does not believe a total failure of the film, and has a plan B size: sell the new technology used for the first time Avatar to other companies … and emotional blackmail to her fans, saying at first that “If the film is a failure (he) has a ball! .

Joking aside, this project has economic issues that are beyond comprehension, and it is difficult to see the impact that the failure of such a film about Hollywood today. The studios are rather cautious in these times of crisis, how to know what the cinema tomorrow if Avatar is not successful? Response from next month, unless the board announced becomes reality!
