Limewire to Pay $105 million in damages to music companies

Limewire is a well known program that has been around for many years and allows users to share files that are on their computers using the peer to peer file sharing software. However, since 2006, Limewire has been in a significant amount of legal bother and the company which was responsible for the development of Limewire; Lime Group has now reached an out of court settlement with record companies for $105 million.

The Lime Group which owns Limewire has reached a settlement that will see them give $105 million to a number of 13 different record companies. Despite this seeming like a huge amount of money, it is far from the amount that the Recording Industry Association of America claimed it was owed by Limewire as this was a figure of $1 billion.

The legal action against Limewire began in 2006 by the RIAA after they previously issued legal action against a similar program named Kazaa. After receiving a settlement of $115 from this company, legal action was then taken against Limewire which has seen the program completely shut down over the past couple of years.
